United Spiral Pipe Dedicates New Plant in Pittsburgh

The new United Spiral Pipe (USP) facility, which is expected to create approximately 120 new full-time manufacturing jobs in Pittsburg, required about 320,000 hours of local building and construction trade labor to build the facility.

The USP facility is a state-of-the-art plant with world-class pipe making and coating capabilities that will be able to produce, at its peak, 300,000 net tons of line pipe per year to meet the growing demand in North America for spiral welded pipe due to natural gas and oil transmission projects. The plant incorporates the latest safety processes and technology and showcases USP's strong commitment to environmental stewardship.

USP is a joint venture of United States Steel Corporation, which is based in Pittsburgh, Pa., and is the largest integrated steel maker headquartered in the United States, POSCO, the largest Korean steel maker, and SeAH Steel Corporation, one of Korea's most innovative makers of steel pipe.

Among those scheduled to attend and speak at the event are: U. S. Steel Chairman and CEO John P. Surma; POSCO Chairman and CEO J. Y. Chung; SeAH Steel Corporation Chairman and CEO W. H. Lee; United Spiral Pipe President M. S. Lee; Nancy Parent, mayor of the City of Pittsburg; and B. W. Koo, Korean consul general. Photo, video and interview opportunities will be provided.
