IH Economic Indicators: All Four Indices Over 52, Three Improve from May

Industrial Heating’s monthly economic indicators for June 2008 showed continued growth in the thermal-processing industry. All four indices were over 52 for the first time since February, and all four were over 50 for the 15th time in the past 16 months. The numbers for request for quotes, number of orders and backlog all experienced increases from May. June 2008’s index numbers reflect the changes experienced by responding companies as they compare their May 2008 business levels to their April 2008 levels.

Change in number of request for quotes from April to May – 55.0
Change in number of orders from April to May – 53.3
Change in backlog from April to May – 53.8
Expected change in the health of the thermal-processing industry through June – 52.2

A number above 50.0 indicates increased activity or growth. A number below 50.0 indicates decreased activity or a decline in growth. Look for these numbers, along with historical values, on the Business Trends page of July’s Industrial Heating.
