February Steel Shipments Up 9.9% from 2007

U.S. steel mills shipped 9, 174,000 net tons in February 2008, according to the latest report from the American Iron and Steel Institute. The report shows that the February total represents a 9.9% increase from the 8,350,000 net tons shipped in February 2007. U.S. steel mills shipped 9,246,000 net tons in January 2008.

February 2008’s total showed the following changes within major market classifications from 2007:

Service centers and distributors, + 8.2%
Automotive, + 3.1%
Construction and contractors’ products, + 4.5%
Oil and gas, + 5.3%
